What is SPOT?
Spot is a Satellite Messenger device that can dispatch emergency responders to your GPS location. It let's your contacts know where you are and that you are OK. It allows you to send and save your location so that your contacts can track your progress on Google Maps. For non-emergency situations you can request help from your friends and family (contacts) and they will know where you are and your current situation.
ALERT 9-1-1: Use this function In the event of a life threatening or other critical emergency to notify emergency services of your location and that you need assistance. The GEOS International Emergency Response Center alerts the appropriate agencies worldwide – for example contacting 9-1-1 responders in North America and 1-1-2 responders in Europe.
Important Note: Unlimited Alert 9-1-1 usage is included as part of the low-cost SPOT service plan.
CHECK IN: Also known as SPOTcheckingSM, this feature allows you to let your SPOTteam – the friends and family you have chosen as your contacts – know that all is well, notify them of your location, or save waypoints so you can review your route at a later date. Your contacts receive either an SMS text message on their mobile phone with your message and coordinates, or an email with your message and a link to Google Maps™ showing your location.
TRACK PROGRESS: Also known as SPOTcastingSM, this feature allows friends and family to follow your progress in real time using your password, or to save waypoints so you can review your entire route at a later date. Once activated, SPOT acquires and sends your GPS coordinates to your SPOT account every 10 minutes. Anyone with access to your account information can log on and view your route, complete with virtual views provided by Google Maps™.
ASK FOR HELP: In the event of a non-life threatening emergency, you can use this function to notify your SPOTteam – that you need assistance. Once activated, SPOT acquires your location from the GPS network and routes it along with the HELP message through the SPOT satellite network every five minutes for one hour or until cancelled. Your contacts will receive an SMS text message including coordinates, or an email with a link to Google Maps™ showing your location.
Important Note: Unlimited Ask For Help, Alert 911 and Check In usage is included as part of the low-cost SPOT service plan. Unlimited Track Progress usage is an affordable option to the low-cost SPOT service plan.
SPOT for Business - WCB Regulations and Safety
If you are an employer who has employees deployed in remote areas beyond cell phone range, you need the affordable and reliable SPOT: The World’s First Satellite Messenger.
Many provinces in Canada have safety regulations that govern the working conditions for "lone workers" or those who work in remote locations. Lone workers should not be at more risk than other employees. As a result, many provinces are placing the onus of responsibility on Employers who need to be able to identify situations where people working alone may be at risk and should consider following safe work practices and taking specific precautions.
SPOT Satellite Messenger can help meet "work alone" regulations by providing a simple and affordable solution to keep in contact with your remote workers. SPOT Satellite Messenger combines GPS and satellite communications technology to help provide your lone and remote workers with a vital line of communication with employers, and emergency assistance when and where it may be needed.
SPOT Satellite Messenger Customers include businesses who operate in areas where cellular coverage is poor or non-existent and landline service unavailable. Forestry workers, loggers, surveyers, long-haul transportation operators, commercial fishermen, government employees, recreational and travel enterprises, geologists, prospectors and public safety organizations all value SPOT Satellite Messenger products and services.
In Canada, outdoor enthusiasts such as backcountry skiers and snowmobilers, fishermen, hunters and hikers can have the convenience and safety of a SPOT Satellite Messenger while they enjoy themselves in remote areas.
